About videos
Developer videos, champion spotlights, dev diaries and behind-the-scenes features. This is the section where Riot talks about the work rather than performing the fiction, and it is the most useful part of the archive for anyone trying to understand why the world is built the way it is.
Design intent is often stated plainly here and nowhere else. A dev video will say which constraint produced a decision, what was cut, and what the team thinks a region is for — the kind of statement the fiction itself never makes.
For an unannounced project, this section and the job listings are the only primary sources that exist.
Champion spotlights are the oldest strand and the most dated — they describe kits that have since been reworked, which makes them a record of an older game rather than a guide to the current one. They are kept for that reason rather than despite it.
The most valuable entries are the ones where a designer explains a constraint. Why a region has the magic it has, why a champion was reworked, why an idea was cut: these are statements of intent, and intent is the thing the fiction itself is least able to tell you.
How this index is filed
Every entry below is a work Riot published, linked to the original rather than summarised. The list is filtered the same way the rest of the Archive is: champion spotlights, cosmetic adverts, tournament recordings and storefront promos are filed out, so a search for videos returns videos and not a battle-pass trailer that happens to carry the same tag. What you see is the filtered set, not everything the database holds.
Each work is also filed by the zone it belongs to and placed on the in-world timeline, so the same entry can be reached three ways — by form here, by place from the zone pages, and by date from the timeline. Ordering here is by publication, newest first, which is the order Riot released them rather than the order they happen in.
The rest of the Archive
The archive is one set of works cut several ways. Videos is one form; the indexes below hold the others, and every entry in all of them is filed by zone and placed on the in-world timeline.
The Archive of Runeterra is the full index, the timeline puts it in in-world order, and the codex wings describe the world these works are set in rather than the works themselves.
