About champion biographies
A champion biography is the canonical account of who a character is: where they were born, what happened to them, and what they want now. Riot publishes one for every champion and rewrites it when a champion is reworked, so a biography is the most current statement of a character rather than a historical artefact.
They are the load-bearing documents of Runeterra. A short story can be ambiguous and a cinematic can be impressionistic, but the biography is where the facts are pinned down — which makes it the first thing to read about a character and the thing every other text is measured against.
The biographies here are indexed alongside the stories that reference them, so a character can be read outward from their own entry into the events they appear in.
Length is deceptive here. A biography runs a few hundred words, but it is revised rather than replaced, so the current text carries the weight of every rework the champion has been through. Reading two versions of the same biography is the clearest record there is of how Riot's view of a character has changed.
They are also the densest cross-reference in the archive. A biography almost never names only its own subject: it names the war, the city, the rival and the order they belonged to, and each of those has an entry of its own here.
How this index is filed
Every entry below is a work Riot published, linked to the original rather than summarised. The list is filtered the same way the rest of the Archive is: champion spotlights, cosmetic adverts, tournament recordings and storefront promos are filed out, so a search for champion biographies returns champion biographies and not a battle-pass trailer that happens to carry the same tag. What you see is the filtered set, not everything the database holds.
Each work is also filed by the zone it belongs to and placed on the in-world timeline, so the same entry can be reached three ways — by form here, by place from the zone pages, and by date from the timeline. Ordering here is by publication, newest first, which is the order Riot released them rather than the order they happen in.
The rest of the Archive
The archive is one set of works cut several ways. Champion Biographies is one form; the indexes below hold the others, and every entry in all of them is filed by zone and placed on the in-world timeline.
The Archive of Runeterra is the full index, the timeline puts it in in-world order, and the codex wings describe the world these works are set in rather than the works themselves.
