Who Is Zaahen?
Zaahen, The Unsundered, is one of the newer names on Runeterra’s roster, and he shows up with a hook the MMO team can’t really ignore: a Darkin who hunts other Darkin. Every champion Riot ships is a quiet commitment to the MMO’s future. A kit gets tuned, a silhouette gets locked, and a corner of the world gets written into canon. So when a god at war with himself walks onto the board, it’s worth asking what a class built around him might feel like once we’re standing in Runeterra instead of hovering above it.
The canon is bleak. Zaahen is a fallen god who carries both divine and profane power, and he spends it hunting his own kind while holding off the corruption that wants to hollow him out. He once sealed himself inside his own glaive to keep the madness at bay. He walks free now, still noble in intent but vicious in a fight, and the real war he’s waging is the one going on inside his head. As long as he keeps winning that one, he stands against anything trying to burn Runeterra down.

The Class Zaahen Points To
Strip Zaahen down to how he actually plays and you get
Zaahen as a sustained melee bruiser: a Warrior or Berserker in MMO terms, with enough burst in the kit to flash an assassin streak when the opening’s there. That isn’t a read on his vibe, it’s the shape of the character Riot already signed off on. What nobody knows yet is how Riot would stretch one champion’s fantasy into a full class, with talent trees, resource systems, and the rest of the machinery that never fit on a five-button League bar.
Reading Zaahen’s Kit Into the MMO
A League kit is the closest thing we have to a class design doc: five abilities, a passive, and a clear opinion about how the character wants to win. Here’s how each of Zaahen’s reads if you drop it into an MMO toolkit. None of this is a leak. It’s just what the buttons are telling us. You can poke at the live version on his analytics page.
P Cultivation of War
Your class resource. Determination builds as Zaahen lands hits on champions, and every stack feeds his attack damage, so the longer he stays in a fight the harder he swings. Fill the bar and he spikes hard enough to come back from death. That’s a rage or combo meter you earn by staying in melee, capped off with a self-revive, which is about as clean a class mechanic as an MMO could ask for.
Q The Darkin Glaive
The weave. His next swing hits twice for bonus damage and heals him, and he can hold the recast to turn that swing into a knock-up instead. One button, two modes: bleed a target while you top yourself off, or bank the recast for a knock-up when you need someone locked down. That flex between sustain and control on a short cooldown is exactly the skill expression a melee class in an MMO gets built around.
W Dreaded Return
The engage. Zaahen stabs out in a line, hits whatever it catches, and drags them back to him. That’s a grab, and grabs change how a class plays a group fight. Peel someone off your backline, yank a straggler out of position, or in group content pull a pack onto yourself and hold it. Every melee class wants a way to close distance on its own terms, and this is Zaahen’s.
E Aureate Rush
The mobility. A dash to a spot with a spin of damage where he lands. This is the button that keeps him stuck to a target and lets him reposition mid-fight, and it doubles as clear since the landing hits everything around him. Mobility that also deals damage is a luxury, and it’s usually what separates a class that feels slippery from one that feels stuck in the mud.
R Grim Deliverance
The payoff. Zaahen rises up and drives the glaive down, hitting everyone underneath and healing off the damage he deals. As an ultimate it does two jobs at once: a heavy AoE hit to swing a fight, and a heal that scales with how many bodies he catches. Land it into a stacked group and it reads like a reset button. That heal-on-damage finish ties the whole kit back to the sustain theme the passive and Q already set up.
Where You’d Play It
Here’s the wrinkle. Zaahen doesn’t belong to a nation. He’s unaffiliated, a Darkin who ranges across the wider world between the great regions instead of flying one banner. Most champions hand the MMO an obvious home turf to drop them into. Zaahen hands it a reason to build the spaces in between: the borderlands and old battlefields where a hunter of his own kind would actually turn up.

Whatever class Zaahen ends up inspiring, it plays out in the same Runeterra these six games already share. That’s the part worth sitting with: the MMO uses the same world you’ve been fighting over in every other Riot game, finally big enough to walk across on foot instead of command from above.
Would You Play It?
If Zaahen’s archetype became a class in the Riot MMO, would you main it?
