What Happened
A Runeterra MMO is playable now and Riot didn't make it: a French fan team built it in Minecraft, with an open demo listed for October 31 to November 8.
if you starve a community long enough, they are going to create something cool.

The demo
- Open demo. Bubulle, a French lore creator, posted on X on October 29 that the "Runeterra MMO Minecraft server" would open a demo that Saturday, October 31, for a week.
- End date. A TikTok caption by Bubulle, seen only in a search snippet, lists October 31 to November 8, with entry through Discord.
- Way in. Bubulle's Linktree page lists the server's Discord.
- Early reach. The announcement had about 8,900 views when checked, and a Twitch broadcast of the demo showed 1,454 in a search result.
- The playthrough. Necrit, an English-language lore YouTuber, played the demo in "Someone Made The Riot MMO In Minecraft!", posted November 5 and at 90,066 views on November 7.
- Riot's part. No source says Riot made, funded or approved the server, and no Riot developer was found engaging with the announcement.
- Creator standing. Bubulle's X bio reads "LoL lore prophet - Riot Games Partner", and Fortiche, the studio behind Arcane, calls Bubulle a "content creator and League of Legends lore expert".

with the help of Bubulle, the French lore guy who is actually part of this massive project, I was able to give this a fair shot

The captions don't name speakers, so the labels here are ours. Necrit credits Bubulle's help, and the guide on the call speaks as a developer and mentions "my YouTube short", so we attribute those lines to Bubulle.

What you can do in it
- League-style screen. HP, mana and six item slots sit on screen. Necrit calls it "a very hexy like League of Legends UI".
- Shared world. The demo starts in Bandle City, the yordles' home, where Necrit meets another player. Bubulle says "You can walk into anybody".
- Quest markers. A marker at the top of the screen tracks each step, and the champion Tristana leads the opening quest.
- Weapons. Teemo, another champion, lets you pick a sword or an axe, and the axe cleaves multiple targets.
- Skill tree. Three versions of a magic missile map to DPS, tank and healer, and level-ups add attribute points such as strength.
- No classes yet. Bubulle calls the system "not very developed yet" and says the team may look at more classes later if most of the community asks.
- Essence shop. A gear merchant sells items for blue essence. The last one also needs 150 orange essence, which Bubulle thinks comes from linking Discord to the server.
- Quest writing. A blacksmith called Fred sends you to "Samantha's cave", then explains "Samantha isn't a person. It's a cave." Necrit calls that "very clever quest design".
we're not going to go, oh, you're a paladin or you're a fighter or you're an assassin or you're a mage or an elementalist or a blah blah blah blah. You know, it's DPS, tank, heal, and then you just adapt.

Two dungeons
- Three trials. The first dungeon opens the Bandle City Heart through intelligence, strength and dexterity rooms.
- The 42 room. The intelligence room asks for the meaning of life and you type 42 in chat. Its questions aren't translated yet, and Bubulle says the room will change.
- Bot boss. The strength room's boss shows 10,000 HP and ignores Necrit's hits, so the bots beside it have to go first.
- Viktor's puppet. The final boss summons those bots, heals and starts shooting once its shield breaks.
- Still changing. The fight had changed so recently that Bubulle, guiding the run, didn't know the new strategy.
- Back in time. The second dungeon sends you back to Noxus during the coup in which the Noxian noble Jericho Swain overthrew Grand General Boram Darkwill, so everything is wrecked. An intact version comes later.
- Named bosses. The run includes a fight with Captain Farron, a Noxian officer with ranged attacks, and ends at the Immortal Bastion, the empire's seat of power.
- Missing scene. A Swain cinematic planned for the ending isn't in yet: "Our 3D modeler is working on Swain."

This actually feels like I am in Noxus.

The team and what comes next
- Translation gaps. Necrit says "the entire development team is French", so some quest text hasn't reached English yet.
- Tristana first. With one modeler on the team, Bubulle says "we did what was most important. Tristana".
- Bugs expected. Necrit warns of bugs and says some quests will be swapped and changed.
- More story. Bubulle plans side quests for Bandle City and more content for the rest of story mode.
- Next region. Bubulle names Shurima or Bilgewater as the next region the server unlocks.
For the moment, it's obviously empty because we need 3D models of yordles. And we only have one person doing the 3D models.

The builder who made this, he solo built this. And as well as 50 to 80% of all of Bandle City.

What This Means for the Riot MMO
Riot has released no footage, screenshots or trailer of its MMO, so this fan server is the closest thing players can walk around in.
- Open name. With no Riot footage to compete with, Necrit's title could say "The Riot MMO", and the video passed 90,000 views by November 7.
- Demand for scraps. One X reply to Fabrice Condominas, the MMO's executive producer, on November 5 read: "Just an animation, a weapon asset, a t pose character, anything".
- Team signals. From the team, players have had replies such as an eyes emoji on a "frozen lore" theory.
- Free projects. Necrit says "if you are not charging for anything using League IP, you are free to do stuff for free."
- Fan policy. Riot's legal page says "We prohibit the use of our IP in games and apps" without a license, and no source says whether this server has one.
- Built first. Quests, roles and two story dungeons came before crowds of NPCs.
- Lore as dungeons. Swain's coup plays as a dungeon here. We've sketched the same idea on paper with Kalista's betrayal and Ornn's crafting story.
- Scope unknown. Riot has confirmed only that its MMO is set in Runeterra. Bandle City and Noxus are this fan team's picks, and the scope of Riot's game is unrevealed.
Our read. Riot's silence left the "Riot MMO" name free for a YouTube title, and players clicked. None of it touches Riot's game: no source ties either creator to the development team, and a fan server can't show how Riot's MMO plays. The useful part is what a team with one modeler chose to build.
Take this
- Lore events as dungeons. Swain's coup gives the Noxus run its setting and a reason to be there.
- Readable boss phases. Kill the bots, break the shield, stay out of the water.
Leave this
- Text before action. Necrit skipped the dialogue three times in the first twelve minutes.
- Typed riddle answers. The team already plans to change that room.
- Roles with nothing behind them. DPS, tank and heal with no classes fits a team with one 3D modeler, and we'd want more from Riot.
Your Take
Would you play a fan-made Runeterra MMO while you wait for Riot's?
What to Watch
The demo's last listed day is November 8, and no source gives a date for the server's next region.
Reported from Necrit and corroborating coverage. The MMO read is ours and clearly speculative. Analysis by RuneGrove.
