After a day of digging trenches, Proctor-Corporal Pell permits her to take a meal break before her evening watch. At the mess field, Cithria observes soldiers playing Tellstones, a strategic board game. She watches several matches, including one featuring intense, silent communication between skilled players. Knight Bunder ultimately concedes after his opponent makes specific moves.
