What Happened
Riot pulled Team Voice, open voice chat with your whole League team, from Patch 26.20 two weeks after announcing it, and has no new date.
The delay
- Pulled from 26.20. Team Voice, voice chat with your whole team instead of only your premade party, will no longer ship to the NA and OCE servers, North America and Oceania, in Patch 26.20.
- Its own post. @LoLDev, the League of Legends dev team's account on X, announced the delay on September 22, separately from that day's patch notes.
- The stated reason. Riot said it "made the call to push it to meet the quality bar you deserve" and gave nothing more specific.
- No new date. Riot has "no new target patch to share yet" and called getting Team Voice right a priority.
- Moderation is a guess. Engadget, the tech news site, tied the delay to moderation; that link is its speculation, not Riot's.

The plan Riot announced
- Announced September 8. Riot revealed Team Voice in "Team Voice, Classic & More", a dev update video from the same team, two weeks before the delay.
- Speaking is earned. The right to speak would be tied to Honor level, the game's behavior system.
- Moderation first. Riot said it would only expand Team Voice to servers where it could support moderation.
- Voice skins. The same update announced voice skins, which change how a player sounds.
We covered that plan the day Riot announced it. Engadget, Inven Global and Sheep Esports, three gaming and esports outlets, all reported the delay on September 22.

What This Means for the Riot MMO
Talking to strangers is what an MMO runs on, and Riot just ruled its first plan for open voice between strangers not ready to ship.
- Quality over the date. Riot pulled a social feature it had promised two weeks earlier rather than ship it under its own bar.
- Honor as permission. Earning the right to speak through behavior is Riot's model for letting strangers talk; an MMO needs it for far more strangers at once.
- Server by server. Riot tied the rollout to servers it can moderate, so a staggered voice launch is its default.
- How you sound. Voice skins treat a player's voice as something they choose, a question every MMO with open voice has to answer.
- MMO voice unannounced. Riot has said nothing about voice chat, or any social system, for its MMO.
Our read. Team Voice is Riot's first try at open voice between strangers, and it slipped at the last step. That's the right instinct for the MMO too: a world full of strangers can launch without open voice, but not with voice nobody can moderate.
It fits Riot's other recent calls about trust and audience: the boosting crackdown is about who is really at the keyboard, and the lead gameplay designer's case for simple champions is about who the game is for. An online world answers both on day one.

Your Take
Should Riot's MMO let strangers talk in voice chat at launch?
Reported from League of Legends Dev Team (@LoLDev) on X; reported by Engadget, Inven Global, Sheep Esports and corroborating coverage. The MMO read is ours and clearly speculative. Analysis by RuneGrove.
