What are the Vastaya? Delve into the complete lore of Runeterra's chimeric, half-human race, from their divine origins as the Vastayashai'rei to the tragic "Great Dying" that threatens their very existence. We explore every major tribe, every champion's backstory, and speculate on their future as a playable race in the Riot MMO.
This is your definitive guide to the history of the Vastaya. In this League of Legends lore deep dive, we uncover their creation during the Titan War, their deep connection to Ionia and the Spirit Realm, and the tragic paradox of their conflict with humanity. We'll break down the Vastayan family tree, exploring the tribes of the land, sea, and sky, including the Marai (Nami), the Kiilash (Rengar), the Lhotlan (Xayah & Rakan), and the last Oovi-Kat, Neeko.
We also explore the stories of Ahri and the half-vastayan Sett, and explain why other races like the Chirean from Arcane or Minotaurs are NOT Vastaya. Finally, we look to the future and discuss how the Vastaya could be an incredible playable race in the upcoming Riot MMO, with unique classes and racial abilities.
